IBPS or The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection

IBPS or The Institute of Banking Personnel Selection is an independent body in India. IBPS was set up in the year 1975 as Personnel Selection Services (PSS) to implement a process of selection for various organisations. IBPS became an autonomous entity in the year 1984.

IBPS provides its services to all nationalised and public sector banks such as SBI, SIDBI, Co-operative banks, NABARD, LIC, etc. Also, IBPS caters its services to various Government departments, state-owned companies, nonfinancial sectors undertakings, etc.

Reserve Bank of India is the governing body for IBPS.

There are also some universities and institutes who take IBPS service on a regular basis for conducting admission tests.

Earlier, IBPS used to conduct separate examinations for clerical and officer level jobs for different banks. But since 2011, IBPS started conducting one single examination for all PSU banks. This combined exam is also known as CWE or Common Written Examination.
